Bariatric surgery is a metabolic procedure for long term management of obesity and related diseases. Obesity in men leads to decrease in testosterone levels which in turn causes a reduction in libido and sperm count. Obesity also impairs sexual performance because of the limited physical mobility and stamina. Moreover, poor body image and decreases self confidence may also hamper sexual performance.
After bariatric surgery, there is a gradual rise in testosterone levels which both increases the libido and sperm count. Because of weight loss, male patients are able to perform better physically and improved self esteem is beneficial in psychological aspects of sexual performance .
